Our History & Beginnings
Our Organisation will benefit residents living in the East End of Newcastle, North Tyneside and surrounding communities experiencing social and economic disadvantage. Our work will prioritise individuals and families experiencing disadvantage, while delivering activities that benefit the wider community.
Eastend Futures CIC was formally established in February 2026. This was a response to former colleagues of Building Futures East who unexpectantly went Into administration in December 2025, due to short-term cash flow issues, despite payments due on live contracts in early 2026 and funding decisions pending. Staff were made redundant without prior awareness of the financial position. leaving the organisation in a vulnerable position.
However, the need in Walker and Byker did not disappear.
In January 2026, three former colleagues met to explore how vital services could continue for local residents. We engaged with reputable East End organisations to assess ongoing need and consider sustainable options. Building Futures East had worked in Walker and Byker for over 19 years, building strong relationships and deep trust within the community—something particularly hard-won in the East End of Newcastle.
After careful consideration, establishing a Community Interest Company (CIC) was identified as the most appropriate structure to continue this critical legacy of support.

Our person-centered approach will allow us to work holistically with individuals who face multiple challenges linked to poverty and disadvantage. These include:

Social isolation
Limited qualifications and unemployment
Insecure income and benefit system barriers
Domestic abuse
Food and fuel insecurity
We respond directly to community need by delivering a range of interconnected and intensive services in the heart of the communities we serve.

• Specialist domestic abuse services
• Community gardening and engagement activities
